It will sadly come as no great surprise to followers of the UK web offset and gravure industries that Polestar UK went into administration yesterday, in all probability for the final time.
This is undoubtedly a tragedy for all the staff who work there but also for the paper, ink and other trade suppliers where many jobs will now be at risk.
At Callimedia we’ve been a long term supporter of Polestar but we can appreciate that customers may be unnerved by current events. We want to let you know that we can utilise our established network of approved suppliers in the UK and Europe to help anyone who may wish to explore alternative options as a result of Polestar’s administration. We can also help to protect you from the inevitable price increases that will occur as a result of reduced UK print capacity.
Callimedia have over twenty years of experience managing our customer’s brochure and catalogue production requirements. If you would like our free and impartial advice then please contact us on 01206 322211, or visit www.callimedia.co.uk.
Whilst some have read the runes for some time and have chosen not to work with Polestar, others will now find themselves seemingly with nowhere to go. Others will find that long standing partners may be full for the foreseeable future. It’s important to consider scheduling at this time as inevitably capacity within the UK will reduce – impacting peak production towards the back end of 2016.
Over the coming days and weeks the remains of Polestar will be picked over by other industry parties. The rumour mill is currently rife with potential interest from Spain and Walstead amongst others.
The one certainty is that capacity will become increasingly difficult to find and prices will inevitably be forced up. 2016 could well see the rebirth of a truly Pan-European market for both web offset and rotogravure printing, a daunting thought for many companies unused to the nuances of dealing with our European cousins.
We very much wish Polestar all the best during this difficult and challenging time, and will aim to keep you updated with any developments.
