Marshalls

As a market leading UK based supplier of seeds and plants Marshalls was looking for a single source solution for the production of their multiple brand mail order catalogues.

The reasons for this were as follows:

• To assist in the consistency and quality of output
• To work with one supply partner that understands the intricacies of their requirements
• To reduce the workload on their (already stretched) marketing department
• To benefit from enhanced knowledge and experience in the print, paper and mailing industries

Despite fierce competition, Callimedia was fortunate enough to be chosen as the supply partner for this role and has since been able to advise on improvements to production methods, use of different format and provide options on new papers as they come onto the market.

As an example, one pain point for the client was the amount of design work that was required when producing a larger format catalogue for their “core” clients and a smaller format catalogue for “prospects”. Not only was this incurring them additional cost but also time delay in getting the catalogues to market.

Callimedia were asked for advice on this issue and came up with some innovative options where the “prospects” catalogue was a pro-rata reduction to the “core” catalogue enabling the same artwork to be used for both. These formats were also efficient for UK postal requirements. At the same time, we were able to use our extensive network of approved suppliers in the UK and Europe to ensure the catalogues were produced cost effectively.

The client is delighted with the formats and the quality of their new catalogues and they have resulted in a significant improvement in revenue.
